Dr. Norman Brodie, Ph.D.

Dr. Norman Brodie is a Registered Psychologist (CAP Reg. No 881) licensed to practice psychology in the Province of Alberta as well as in the Yukon Territory. He is also registered as a Professional Member of the National Academy of Neuropsychology. Dr. Brodie has worked as a registered licensed psychologist since 1979 and has completed degrees in Psychology (B.Sc. Spec., with Distinction, 1976), Counselling Psychology (M.Ed., 1979) and School Psychology (Ph.D., 1988). He also completed additional training in neuroanatomy and neuropathology with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Alberta and in neuropsychological assessment techniques from pioneering experts in the field such as Drs. Ralph Reitan and Charles Golden.


Dr. Brodie began his professional practice as a psychologist with Alberta Mental Health Services in 1979 where he was involved both with direct therapy with patients as well as developed a role as the neuropsychological consultant for AMHS offices for the central to northern half of the province. He has been in private practice as a neuropsychologist since 1985 and has served as a consultant for disability related assessments with many government agencies such as Alberta Human Services/Alberta Works, the Alberta Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped programme, Child Protective Services/Child Welfare, the Canadian Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police service, Public Service Commission for federal government employees, non-profit organizations such as the Learning Disabilities Association of Yukon and many law firms for personal injury suit cases, as well as disability insurance companies and Independent Medical Examination brokerage agencies. He has been accepted as an Expert Witness in multiple court cases both in Alberta as well as the Yukon.


Dr. Brodie is also an Adjunct Professor with the Department of Psychology at Concordia University of Edmonton, teaching individual intellectual assessment as well as applied neuropsychology courses at both the undergraduate and graduate student level and has served as a practicum supervisor for many Applied Psychology programme and graduate diploma students from that university, as well as a supervisor for psychology students from several other university programmes across Canada.


The primary focus of Dr. Brodie’s practice is in the provision of psychological and neuropsychological assessments, with extensive experience in the evaluation of the nature and extent of impairments or disabilities arising from brain injuries, neurological diseases (such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease and dementias), developmental disorders (intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder, etc.) as well as emotional disorders/disabilities such as from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, Anxiety Disorders or major mental health disorders such as Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia. He also provides educational and vocational evaluation services for both children and adults to assist with educational supports and accommodation needs arising from impairments or disability conditions.


Dr. Brodie provides consultation services not only through his primary office located in Edmonton, but also on a traveling basis across Alberta and in travelling clinics to Whitehorse, Yukon. He is also able to provide on-line virtual assessment services to accommodate the needs of clients outside of Edmonton and/or those unable to participate in face to face appointments due to health issues.
